Against Orders: How Two Diplomats Rescued 15,000 Jews

For the 2022 Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week, the HMMSA is leading a community-wide effort to offer twenty special topic presentations. The focus of the lectures will be on instilling in the students, educators, and general audience Elie Wiesel’s message that “the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.”

Join Amber Garcia from the Eleanor Kolitz Hebrew Language Academy for a presentation entitled: Against Orders: How Two Diplomats Rescued 15,000 Jews

"This talk will focus on the fascinating stories of Japanese Diplomat Chiune Sempo Sugihara and Portuguese Diplomat Aristides Sousa Mendes. Both of these men disobeyed their governments’ orders and helped thousands of Jews emigrate out of Nazi-controlled Europe."
