For the 2022 Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week, the HMMSA is leading a community-wide effort to offer twenty special topic presentations. The focus of the lectures will be on instilling in the students, educators, and general audience Elie Wiesel’s message that “the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.”
Join George Wunderlich from the U.S. Army Medical Department Museum for a presentation on Camp Liberations by the U.S. Army.
"In April of 1945, U. S. troops liberated the Buchenwald concentration camp near Weimar, Germany. While some of the soldiers had likely heard rumors of similar camps liberated earlier by Soviet forces, nothing could have prepared them for what they discovered. This presentation will discuss what the U. S. troops found at Buchenwald, Dachau, Dora-Mittelbau, Flossenbürg, and Mauthausen and the military efforts to heal and save the living victims they found inside these camps."
