For the 2022 Texas Holocaust Remembrance Week, the HMMSA is leading a community-wide effort to offer twenty special topic presentations. The focus of the lectures will be on instilling in the students, educators, and general audience Elie Wiesel’s message that “the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.”
Join Wendy Lockard from St. Jerome Catholic School for a presentation entitled: Female Rescuers and Resistance Fighters.
"During the Holocaust, despite the difficulty and danger, many women, in and out of the camps, ghettos, and in resistance, chose to care for others. Students will examine the lives and accomplishments of five courageous women: Hannah Senesh, Hanneke Ippisch, Sara Ginaite, Corrie ten Boom and Irena Sendler. By learning the stories of these women, students will gain an understanding of the difficult decisions some individuals made in choosing to fight oppression, even when it meant risking their lives."
